Oh yeah. Food Blog of the Day - Fontina Polenta Pie w/ Beef & Mushrooms

The wind is just howling outside...but the toasty nature of our woodburning fireplace cuts the chill in the air.  It got me to thinking, there really is nothing so heartwarming as a good homecooked meal that truly fits the bill on a day like this.  Am I right?  Or am I right.

This blogger caught my attention recently and I just have to share it with you because, oh dear Lemonade friends...it looks amazing!  And yes, even to a vegetarian.  (I still cook for the non-vege-heads in my house, remember?)

Ms. Meseidy - I like to call her by her first name because maybe if we were truly friends, perhaps I could eat at her table...(I digress).  Ms. Meseidy, made the MOST luxurious Fontina Polenta Pie with Beef & Mushrooms and it appeals to my pretty eyeballs ...a bit like the perfect icing to a cupcake.   Just look at this:

Gorgeous right?  There is something very earthy and homey about it.  Ms. M recently Tweeted about this very creation by saying this:

"Butter, onions, garlic, mushrooms, red wine, beef, cheese and polenta. Hello lover! http://bit.ly/eIfmVe"

Oh I just adore her.  Couldn't have put it any better than that!  I swear you'll all *sigh* and tummy's will growl when you see how she lays out the work needed to make these.   Do jump over here and tell her what a great job she has done with this!  You'll thank me later when you are happy, satiated and joyfully-full from this meal and Ms. Meseidy's goodness.

If you want to follow her on Twitter (like I totally do!jump here and on Facebook, you'll find her here.

Nuff said people...now go cook...and eat!

Food Blog of the Day - "Crisp & Light Waffles"

Picture 1 (photo by Cooking Ninja)

I love a weekend with at least one special breakfast with my family.  Sometimes it is brunch on Sunday after church...which works out amazingly well...with the potatoes, eggs...pancakes...bacon...fruit - or some other great breakfast of choice.   My kids love it, my husband loves it...Mr. G helps the entire way - and I end up feeling like a complete Ms. Smartypants just because i think I am doing something great on the weekend, around the kitchen table as a family.  (yeah delusions of any "Mom of the Year" awards are constantly being knocked out of my head...**sigh**)

Food Blog of the Day - "Blackberry Cobbler" - summertime best!

Picture 18

Growing up in California, there was never a summer that passed without at least one or a dozen "Blackberry Cobblers" in our kitchens.   Most of the time, we'd pick our own berries and drop them with a thunk into large plastic ice cream buckets.   Each time we picked the berries, we knew there would be sacrifices involved.  Every bush contained thorn and bristles that would carve past the thickest denim and find their way into the sleeve of our t-shirts with ease.   But we always knew that with every scratch from the thorns and prickles...it only meant we were one step closer to the deep inner-sanctum of the berry bush...and that meant we'd find the thickest, juiciest...plumpest berries where they were hiding.   From our buckets, to the table...meant a whole different kind of preparation...usually including butter, flour...sugars....etc.  And somehow it always made sense that we'd enjoy that dessert more than any other of the year.

In celebration of summer being at our doorstep....I bought a bunch of blackberries for "Blackberry Cobbler" this week.   And then went in hunt of the perfect recipe.

I want to introduce you to our "Food Blogger of the Day" - Ms. Karly of "Buns in my Oven" - such a cute name for a blog, don't ya think?   Her version of Blackberry Cobbler actually made me drool a little....so I knew it was the recipe to share with ya'll!  (oh come on, wait til you see how this girl can take a photo! THEN tell me you didn't drool too! She's fabulous!)

Meet Karly, HERE....and then, jump over HERE to see her fantastic recipe for "Blackberry Cobbler"...but don't stop there.   You'll want to see what she cooked up for June already by heading to her home page...Caramel is my sugar-of choice...and she has me begging for more!   I just know you're going to love Ms. Karly...so drop her a note of appreciation won't you?

Thank you "Buns in my Oven" for sharing with us all!

Food Blog of the Day - "Grilled Polenta" - I loved it!

Picture 12

I had a craving for something entirely out of my normal cooking routine yesterday...Polenta came to mind for some unknown reason and I went on a hunt for something different.   I will be honest and tell you that Polenta as a whole...not really my cup of tea.  Something about the textures...kinda hasn't engrafted itself to my palette.  But when I saw THIS recipe...for Grilled Polenta...I sprung to attention.

Let me tell you that once you start to read this blogger, "Proud Italian Cook" - you'll fall in love with her idea of good food!  It's deliriously fun...and truly inspiring!  I am HOOKED.  And I made a version of this very recipe last night that was in a word...AMAZING!  Use your fresh tomatoes, garlic and basil...if you have them.  You won't regret the bit of time it takes to get this up for dinner.

And just on a side note, if you make your polenta from plain ole Cornmeal, it is fabulous...a lighter texture, not so grainy...and perfectly wonderful.   I made mine in about 1/2 hour...with1 part cornmeal, 3 parts beef broth, 1 part milk, and seasonsings to taste...then added about 2 tablespoons of butter toward the end.  Poured it into a pan...stuck it in the freezer for 20 mins...sliced it up into triangles...and grilled those bad boys under the broiler.   Worked so well hubby ate three pieces!

Come take a pieek at this wonderful recipe for Grilled Polenta...wow!  And check out our food blogger on Facebook HERE - go become a FAN and get the updates from her recipes whenever they show up!

Thank you Proud Italian Cook for sharing with us!
