It's "Friday Night Wine" - got ya' covered...10 Cheap drinks to make!

There is a whole lot going on in the Lemonade household at the moment.  You see, hubby has been hard at work on a big plan for this Lemonade Mama for Valentine's day...did I tell you all that he's Uber-Romantic?  Well he is.  And that means that things have sort of taken a different turn in the past few days because of this precious holiday coming up.   With that in mind, we had to change a plan for another "Friday Night Wine" and move toward something else...(oh I feel so cryptic writing it this way but you'll see the "other" one soon enough on T.L.C.).

Screen shot 2011-02-11 at 3.29.00 PM A bit ago, I found a delicious article for making Cheap drinks and I think tonight is the perfect time to share that lovely goodness with you.   Since it is Friday and you've made it through for yes ...one more week...celebrate with joy!   New to "Friday Night Wine"?   Catch up on where it started, HERE!

You may already have on hand, the ingredients for several of the drinks on this list.  Another idea is that you grab up the recipe and try your own variation...where it calls for Cranberry juice, try grapefruit or grape or peach...you never know when you'll create something spectacular.

It's time for "Friday Night Wine" - you made it through the week - 2/4/11

Screen shot 2011-01-28 at 7.21.40 AMLemonade friends...(big breath in and out)...we made it!   It's Friday and that means it's "Friday Night Wine".   I hope you got a chance to try last weeks contribution....it was YUM!

Salmon Run Petit Noir

Lemonade husband and I look forward to this every week.  We rarely drink anything special during the week and it just seems so rewarding to work so hard all week and fall into Friday night with a quiet celebration.  If you're here for the first time, you can catch up on this whole lovely "Friday Night Wine" by going HERE!

Last week, Lemonade husband...true to form, was so happy that we would be doing a weekly posting on this subject that he brought home a few to share over the next few weeks. (He's adorable, really.)  No we didn't drink it all last week.  Just this bottle.  I promise.

Anyhoo, this weeks wine was a mere $7.99 in our area.  It's called, "Salmon Run - Petit Noir".  It sounded very dry to me before I even open the bottle...but hey now, I have a job to do.  (very difficult job, I know..)  So open the bottle we did.

Now I'll be perfectly honest here, I was surprised.  (Happily so!)   This wine is so easy on the tongue its amazing.  Not too dry...not too sweet.   It literally lays in the middle of the road as a red wine.    It smelled a bit spicy but didn't reflect that so much in its taste.  And it felt very "extravagant".    I'd say it's the kind of wine you could easily give someone as a gift and trust that it would be enjoyed.   And that's about it really.

If you have a great wine - we'd love to hear about it!  Have a great weekend folks.

Fabulous Friday Night Wine - 1/28/11

Screen shot 2011-01-28 at 7.21.40 AMI think its a bit funny that Mr. Lemonade and I are choosing this to be our first Friday Night Wine with you and it is so very much not a "wine" - but if you read what Friday Night Wine is all about HERE, then you already know we're still on the right track!

I love this recipe because...

  • It's fabulously cheap to make!
  • It's ridiculously easy to make!
  • And it's so good, its like drinking a peanut butter cup! (hello ladies)

Mr. Lemonade likes this recipe because...it tastes like Peanut Butter and anything in the world that tastes like PB, well he's immediately intrigued.  It is also lactose free - which is certainly major to him.

So here goes,

"Friday Night Wine" & Martini's - you made it through the week!

Screen shot 2011-01-28 at 7.21.40 AM It all started when things were very difficult financially (more on that here).   The whole year had been taxing on our lives.  And in mid-winter it seemed particularly harsh.   It appeared to me that going through tough times and making every sacrifice in the book to make ends meet, was also stealing the rich succulence out of our lives.   That is to say, bluntly, we were not having ANY fun at all.  Not even the cheap kind.

On that day, in the heart of winters dreary nature, I sat, exhausted by it all.  For some reason, I started daydreaming about a new wine store that had opened up.  It had the prettiest tiled floors with soft modern lighting that seemed to make your skin look sun-bathed just ever so slightly.   Throughout room, resting on glorious cherry wood shelves, stood wines of every shade of red, pink and white from around the world.   Even the windows felt grand with their crisp white lines and elegant modern design.  The whole building seemed to exude a cross between Williams-Sonoma and the elegance of the wine country of Napa Valley.   And that my friends, felt warm, cozy and inspiring to this Lemonade Mama.

I dashed over to my husband and said, "I have an idea!  Let's go visit the new wine store and explore it.  We need to get out.  And I think it let us escape for a while.  Maybe we could find a wine for under $10.00 to have tonight when we get home?"
